Introduction to Internet Technologies

Week 01: The Internet and the World Wide Web

Welcome to the first week of our semester.  Students will be introduced to the course outline and teaching plan, as well as what is expected from the students when they follow-through this module.

Take note that there are a few columns in each page of this site - each carries certain information.  This main content column is more on lecture, the rest would be information regarding assignments, tutorials, labworks, announcements, etc.  So be alert, read through all the contents in the webpage, and keep yourself updated!

Lecture Note
View the following presentation, for your preparation of Week 01 lecture.  This introductory chapter is about "The Internet and the World Wide Web".

Important Highlight

A few things to highlight for this semester.  Since the class is considerably big, I have to draw some lines with these rules and instructions.  Students are advised to take note of this, in order to ease the whole teaching and learning processes between us.

  • Only official mail will be entertained.
  • No spam mail or invitation.
  • Make appointment via e-mail first, before you come for consultation.
  • Refer to my schedule to know when are my consultation hours and available time.
  • For students who decide to add this subject later than Week01, you are advised to be punctual and attendance for you for ALL classes in the semester is MANDATORY.
  • No begging for marks, especially if you're not 'well-equipped' with ample knowledge to debate with me for the extra marks.
  • If you beg me for release of marks earlier than Week10, then whatever marks released then would be the ONLY portion known to you until next semester.

Hope there won't be any hiccups in our semester together...

- MsSha

Any changes in these documents will be notified in class.

Ch01 Tutorial & Summary

I've given the Tutorial for Chapter01, along with the answers. Hope you could recap the whole chapter via that little exercise.

I've also explained to you the mental map of the summary for Chapter01, with parts of the chapter that would be suitable for test and exam questions.

It would be a good practice for your self-study to produce your own mental map while study. The one given to you is merely my own version. Only if you produce your own mental map then it would work for you... (believe me, I was a student too <wink!>)

As mentioned in class, I won't publish the tutorial questions and answers anymore, to be fair to those who attended the classes.  For those who missed out these two minor things, please get them from your classmates.
